What makes a dataset an Enterprise Dataset?
Trimble’s Enterprise Data Warehouse houses Trimble enterprise datasets. In the EDW, data from various source systems is ingested via robust data pipelines and transformed into enterprise data products, often representing governed golden records that can be utilized by the enterprise—Trimble. But how do we define what data is in scope for the EDW?
What is Enterprise Data?
Section titled “What is Enterprise Data?”Enterprise Data helps Trimble run our business. Enterprise data is cross-cutting and applicable to most or all of Trimble’s business areas, which is why Enterprise Data is managed at the corporate level.
Enterprise data can be considered “data about our customers” instead of “our customer’s data”. Trimble owns and manages enterprise data.

Core Enterprise Data
Section titled “Core Enterprise Data”In the image above, note that the smallest blue circle represent a subset of Enterprise Data called Core Enterprise Data.
The Enterprise Data Ops team is accountable for maintaining Trimble’s most foundational enterprise data domains, including Account/Organization, Person, and Device. These datasets are Trimble’s “golden records” for these data domains. The Enterprise Data Ops team ensures the data availability from source systems to enterprise data warehouse, data governance, and quality.
While not explicitly limited, there are probably only a 5-10 Core Enterprise Datasets within Trimble.
