Production release: 19 August 2026

This release introduces robust Multi-Group Support to our IoT infrastructure. Devices can now operate across multiple group contexts, enabling seamless synchronization, enhanced compliance, and precise control over messaging and data routing.

IoT Activation & Messaging:

IoT products now support devices communicating across various back-office platforms. This is managed via a feature flag to ensure controlled rollout and enforces strict group association limits.

Enhanced API Context: Messaging, telemetry, and device-management APIs have been updated to be group-context aware, ensuring all communication strictly adheres to device group boundaries.

Improved Processing & Synchronization

OtaFirmwareProcessor: Firmware processing is now more consistent; the processor now fetches groupId directly from the iotrelations table rather than relying on the SQS message payload.

System Topic Routing: The SystemTopicMessageProcessor now broadcasts MQTT system-level events to all groups associated with a device, ensuring synchronization across all downstream group levels.

Security & Compliance

Custom Authorizer Policy Union: The CustomAuthorizer now compiles a union of AWS IoT IAM policies for all groups a device belongs to. This ensures that devices maintain proper access levels while remaining compliant with AWS policy size limitations.

Logging & Notifications

Context-Aware Error Routing: The ErrorLogProcessor now intelligently routes error logs to all associated device groups, utilizing topic-based filtering to provide context-specific insights.

Comprehensive Certificate Notifications: The CertificateDueManager now sends expiration notifications to every group associated with a device, providing enhanced visibility for all relevant stakeholders.
